The Longest Day 2019Published on 1st November 2019 in members and guests
Technically it’s not the longest day of the year* but Monday 9th December will feel like it for member, Ray Quinlan.
Ray has contacted the Club to let us know he is “having a go” and is participating in The Longest Day, a sponsorship event to raise funds to support the work of the Cancer Council. He’ll be taking up the challenge a few days after several other members, (Tom King, Hugh McKewan and David Proctor) attempt the feat on Friday 6th December.
“In recent years I have had family members, good friends and other people I know including some members from our golf club affected from some form of cancer or another.
Rather than leave it with words of comfort or sympathy to express concern I have decided to do something as a tangible way to support the Cancer Council in its various good works. Surely if we can put a man on the moon, we can one day find a cure for all forms of cancer and its hideous consequences.”
Ray says that if the temperature on the day is 30C or more, the event may be transferred to another date. Seventy-two holes in one day for a 78-year-old will be quite a challenge.
If you would like to walk a few holes with Ray on the 9th December you will be very welcome, along with joining him in the clubhouse for drinks around 5.30pm to 6pm to “top up his fluids.”
Please give your support and encourage Ray’s fund-raising effort you can sponsor him via this link.
Any other member wishing to sign up for the event can register here.
