Munro Quaich

To be played on Sunday 8 June 2025.

As Captain Jenny Carden noted in last month's Captain’s Corner article, “we are a club — not just a golf course — and members are encouraged to mix, make new friends and participate in trophy events. Camaraderie matters as much as competition.”

In that spirit, members are warmly invited to enter the Munro Quaich — a ‘partners drawn’ mixed Canadian Foursomes competition, exclusive to members and played on the Sunday afternoon of the King’s Birthday weekend. Entries close 6 June.

Whilst Graham was playing the 14th hole he hit a wonderful high pitch shot towards the flag which was caught by the wind. The ball descended vertically downward and landed in the deep greenside bunker short of the green. The ball was plugged and unplayable, what are Graham’s options for relief.

Super-Veterans 2025 Champion

Congratulations to Cynthia Thomas, who claimed victory in the 2025 Super Veterans Championship after a closely contested round. The title was decided on the first play-off hole on Thursday 15 May, where Cynthia held her nerve to secure a well-deserved win over runner-up Susie Austin.

RULES Answer

Answer: Rule 19.3a Normal Relief Options (One Penalty Stroke)

When a player’s ball is in a bunker:

  • The player may take unplayable ball relief for one penalty stroke under any of the options in Rule 19.2, except that:
  • The ball must be dropped in and come to rest in the bunker if the player takes either back-on-the-line relief (see Rule 19.2b) or lateral relief (see Rule 19.2c).
  • 19.3b
  • Extra Relief Option (Two Penalty Strokes)
  • As an extra relief option when a player’s ball is in a bunker, for a total of two penalty strokes, the player may take back-on-the-line relief outside the bunker under Rule 19.2b.

Trivia Answer

The esteemed group of Susan Austin,  Jenny Carden, Matt Carroll, Petter Duffield, Rob Hunter and Cameron Russell have all recorded an albatross this century. (*Cynthia Thomas achieved hers in 1998). The flock was joined this past week by Shane Davis who had an albatross during the Wednesday competition on 28 May 2025.

These remarkable feats are relatively rare at the Club, occurring, on average, only once every four years. Congratulations Shane.
