CLUBHOUSE DRINKS

Friday 26 April 2024

This Friday will be the final 'Last Friday' of the month event prior to the Clubhouse closing for renovations at the end of next month. Please come along for drinks and nibbles from 5.30pm. If you intend to stay for dinner afterwards, make sure you reserve a table as availability is limited.

This month, Anton is hoping you can help him to (responsibly) reduce his wine and spirits inventory prior to it being stored or transferred to the temporary clubhouse. Cheers! He will have a range of wines and spirits handpicked from the cellar.

Pennant

Various dates

Men: Only two rounds remain of the men's 2024 pennant season. Div.1 host on the final round so they have only one match to play this Sunday 28 at Barwon Valley vs East Geelong. It is a must win for any chance of finals contention. Div.3, meanwhile, have secured their place in the finals having won five from five. They host this Sunday and will play Queens Park at Clifton Springs on 5 May.

Women: This week's women pennant sees: Div.1 playing at Portarlington; Div.2 at Clifton Springs; and Div.3 and the Sunday pennant team at Curlewis. After four rounds (of seven) two teams of women sit unbeaten on top of their ladders.

Keep an eye on the members' website for weekly reports and photos.

(Final) First Friday Dinner & Bridge

Friday 3 May 2024

This will be the final 'First Friday Dinner and Bridge' in the Clubhouse prior to its closure for renovations. It would be nice to see as many bridge players as possible attend.

The specially prepared main course dish for the evening will be grilled lamb backstrap, smoky eggplant, pomegranate, broccolini and muhamarra with a glass of wine. (Muhammara is a Middle Eastern roasted red pepper and walnut dip. Sweet, tangy, and lightly spicy, it's delicious.)

Dinner with a glass of wine at 6.30pm ($45) followed by duplicate bridge at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.

20th Annual Gateways Charity Day

Friday 17 May 2024

Last year, Gateways Support Services successfully raised $16,080 at the BHGC charity golf day. The funds were put towards the purchase of a new minivan which has enable participants in Gateway's recreation program to access their local community, promoting choice and control, whilst learning and developing skills to achieve their goals.

Please come along to support this very worthwhile cause where you will also have the opportunity to win $10,000 for a hole in one.

Entries close Tuesday 14 May 2024.

Victorian Hickory Shaft Championship 2024

Sunday 19 May 2024

Dust off your hickory clubs (or enquire about hiring some) to play in the Victorian Hickory Shaft Championships — hosted by the Golf Society of Australia and to be played at BHGC on Sunday 19 May. Golf will be followed by presentations and casual lunch.

Get a feel for how the founding members of the Club experienced the course and imagine the thrill you'll feel lifting the championship trophy. Excellence and tradition.

President's Cocktail Party

Saturday 25 May 2024 - from 6.00pm

Last year’s event was fully booked — and as one of the final events before the Clubhouse closes for renovations, this year’s party is also expected to be popular. Book early, don’t miss out.

The night recognises winners of events over the past year and all members and their guests are invited to attend the 2024 President’s Cocktail Party. As usual, the evening is in two parts: the cocktail party where event/trophy winners over the past 12 months are recognised, and the optional dinner afterwards. Bookings are essential for both events.

Women's Bowls

To all women members,

It has come to our attention that many members don't know how to book ‘bowls’ or what a bowl is. Bowls, salvers and plates are weekday women's events whereby a club holds an annual competition, usually including luncheon, and invites members from other clubs to play their course and compete for a bowl, salver or plate...

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Book Talk

Bestselling author Grantlee Kieza OAM was in the Clubhouse to talk with members and their guests about his latest book ‘Sister Viv’ on Thursday 18 April.

It was a tremendous turnout and afterwards over 60 stayed for dinner creating a lovely Clubhouse atmosphere. Thank you to Grantee, the Barwon Heads bookstore 'Heads & Tales' and to all who attended.
