Junior Golf Week

Please enter early to assist the organisers of Junior Golf Week 2026. We are looking forward to a fabulous welcome BBQ and another fantastic week of golf.

Junior Golf Week Volunteers

Over 80 members volunteered during the 2025 Junior Golf Week which helped to make it such a success.

For the 2026 event, Holly Ryswyk, the Golf Operations Coordinator, is asking volunteers to place their names directly onto the actual timesheet(s). This way you can book the exact day, time and event that you want to help out with.

Thank you in advance, volunteers.

Captain's corner

This month’s Captain’s Corner revisits the principles of Ready Golf and why adopting it makes such a positive difference to everyone’s round. It’s simple, safe and supported by the R&A, and with a few easy habits we can all help keep the course moving smoothly.

Also, find out what hole is favourited by former Treasurer, Bronwyn Constance. Read the full article via the link below.

HOUSE LEVY

Members with a positive house levy balance are reminded they have until 30 April 2026 to spend it, or it will be forfeited. Members may credit against their house levy charges incurred for accommodation in the Clubhouse and food and beverages consumed in the Clubhouse by the member and visitors in their company.

As advised previously, it is wise to reserve dining or accommodation early to avoid disappointment. Accommodation in the Clubhouse is still available during January.

RULE OF THE MONTH

By the Golf Shop staff

Gary, Jason and Phil are having a great day at Barwon Heads. They are playing the 9th hole where Jason hit his shot into the left greenside trap. Upon arriving he finds his ball and believes it is totally unplayable.

Answer below.

BIRD OF THE MONTH

By Robin Spry

Often dismissed as little more than fish-and-chip scavengers, Silver Gulls are far more impressive than their reputation suggests. Elegant, adaptable and intelligent, they thrive along our coastlines and wetlands and play an important role in the local ecosystem.

FEATURE FLORA

By Bill McKellar

Discover this month’s Feature Flora: Pimelea humilis, the Common Rice-flower found along our coastal fairways. Its low-growing form, creamy blooms and quiet resilience make it a standout of the Bellarine heath.

RULES Answer

Answer

Relief Options for Unplayable Ball in Bunker

19.3a Normal Relief Options (One Penalty Stroke)

When a player’s ball is in a bunker:

  • The player may take unplayable ball relief for one penalty stroke under any of the options in Rule 19.2, except that:
  • The ball must be dropped in and come to rest in the bunker if the player takes either back-on-the-line relief (see Rule 19.2b) or lateral relief (see Rule 19.2c).

A player decides that their ball in a bunker is unplayable. The player has four options:

  1. For one penalty stroke, the player may take stroke-and-distance relief.
  2. For one penalty stroke, the player may take back-on-the-line relief in the bunker.
  3. For one penalty stroke, the player may take lateral relief in the bunker.
  4. For a total of two penalty strokes, the player may take back-on-the-line relief outside the bunker.

19.3b Extra Relief Option (Two Penalty Strokes)

As an extra relief option when a player’s ball is in a bunker, for a total of two penalty strokes, the player may take back-on-the-line relief outside the bunker under Rule 19.2b. See Rule 25.4n (for players who use a wheeled mobility device, the back-on-the-line extra relief option in Rule 19.3b is reduced to one penalty stroke). Penalty for Playing Ball from a Wrong Place in Breach of Rule 19.3: General Penalty under Rule 14.7a
