Dear member,
Foursomes Championships 2025
Members are encouraged to enter this year's Club Foursomes Championship.
Entries are open for both weekday (Tuesday 5 August) and weekend qualifying rounds (Sunday 10 August) for the Men’s (inc. the GC Adams & HF Tucker Foursomes) and Women’s Club Foursomes Championships (gross and nett events).
Each July, it is customary for the Club to recognise those members who have reached the significant milestone of 50 years of membership, at a celebratory lunch in the Clubhouse.
This year, the 50+ Lunch will be postponed until the Clubhouse has reopened, where the following 2025 inductees will be formally recognised:
Mr Richard Allen, Mrs Robina Brookes, Mr Andrew de Crespigny, Mr Charles Happell and Mr Angus McKechnie.
*Renovations prevented the lunch last year so members who reached this milestone in 2024 will also be recognised at the 2025 lunch. We look forward to celebrating their longstanding contribution to the Club at a date to be announced soon.
Considered it last month but didn’t follow through?
The Nominations Sub-Committee encourages members to nominate for committee and sub-committee roles and play a part in guiding the future of our Club.
To learn more or express your interest, please visit the Nominations Sub-Committee page on our website.
The Club’s annual Fire Brigade Appreciation Days will be held next week, with $10 golf competition fees on Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 July that will include a $5 donation to the Barwon Heads CFA. The same $5 donation will be added to bridge timesheet entries on Monday 7, Wednesday 9 and Friday 11, making them $8.
All members and guests — not just golfers — are encouraged to contribute. A distinctive red CFA ‘moneybox’ hat will be circulating for additional donations. Your support helps recognise and assist the vital work of our local brigade.

CAPTAIN'S CORNER
In this month’s Captain’s Corner, we celebrate the camaraderie and rewards of team golf—and junior champion Tom Hyland shares what makes his favourite hole at Barwon Heads so deceptively challenging.
Entries for the 2025SWGA Men’s Open Championships have now closed after the field filled in what is believed to be record time. Encouragingly, this year’s entries show broader club representation across the South West Golf Association region than in previous years.
Round 1 will be held at Queenscliff Golf Club on Sunday 13 July, with Round 2 to follow at The Barwon Heads Golf Club on Sunday 20 July.

BHGC APP LAUNCH
Almost 700 downloads have occurred since the member-only App was launched last week and while there are always some things to learn and improve on, the feedback received so far has been very positive.
Communications from the Club via the App will increase incrementally over the coming months but please continue to read Club emails and check the member website regularly.

Affiliate Club Privileges – Athenaeum & Sanctuary Cove
In addition to our reciprocal club network, Barwon Heads also maintains special affiliate agreements with two notable clubs: the Athenaeum Club in Melbourne and Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club in Queensland.
These arrangements offer select privileges for most Barwon Heads members visiting their facilities. More details are available via the article linked below.
Members are encouraged to share this special opportunity with friends: a chance for non-members to play at Barwon Heads—at a significantly reduced rate, all while supporting a worthy local cause.
The 12th annual Community Charity Golf Day will be held on Sunday 3 August 2025 and bookings are now open. Proceeds support additional resources at Barwon Heads Primary School and help strengthen the longstanding relationship between the Club, the school and local families.
Several members will have current or past ties to the Barwon Heads Primary School, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year — a milestone not far from our own 117 years.
The school has reached out to ask us to share details about its anniversary fundraising dinner on Saturday 18 October at the Barwon Heads Hotel. Click through for information or to book a ticket.
They flock in their thousands, shimmer in the sunlight, and sing in voices that mimic everything from kookaburras to camera shutters. They are a highly social, surprisingly clever (and slightly controversial) character of our skies.
This month’s Feature Flora is one you have likely walked past without realising its value. It is a quiet achiever — stabilising dunes, greening bare patches and flowering delicately through winter.
Trivia Question: What new course is represented in the design above?
TRIVIA ANSWER:
BAY COURSE - ROYAL SYDNEY GC
Created by Course Architect Gil Hanse and supported by Landscape Architect Harley Kruse, the new design has reimagined and revolutionised Royal Sydney’s 18-hole championship golf course and has created a ‘two loops of nine’ routing pattern and implemented ribbon-style tee boxes. The course also boasts modern methodologies in bunker design and green construction.

Answer: For a ball to be marked on the green correctly, it must be "marked
appropriately and the ball lifted."
If the ball has not been lifted after marking, and natural forces cause
the ball to move, then you must play the ball from the new position.
If the ball is "Marked and Lifted" correctly, once
replaced, if natural forces cause the ball to move, then the ball must be
returned and played from the position where the ball was marked.
Penalty for playing incorrectly substituted ball or playing ball from a
