Around the greens at Barwon Heads, touch and control can be the difference between saving par and dropping a shot. The new TaylorMade Milled Grind 5 wedges have been designed with that in mind: delivering the soft, responsive feel that helps you adapt to the tight lies, coastal winds and varied turf conditions of our links course.

CNC-milled faces ensure consistent spin, whether you’re playing a delicate chip from the fringe or a high, soft pitch into a firm green."

On Wednesday 27 August, TaylorMade fitting specialists will be at the Club with Trackman technology to help you find the exact loft, bounce and grind to suit both your swing and the demands of our course. A professional fitting will not only fine-tune your wedge setup, it will give you the confidence to take on the short game challenges here at Barwon Heads — and anywhere you play.

SEPTEMBER SCHOOL HOLIDAY - JUNIOR CLINIC

These sessions are exclusively available to the children and grandchildren of members, as well as junior members aged eight to 16.

Each 60-minute clinic offers a blend of skill-building activities, including ball-striking drills and engaging games. To ensure personalised instruction, each session is limited to six participants. The cost is $25 per session.

We encourage parents and grandparents to take advantage of this opportunity for their young golfers to develop their skills in a fun, supportive and professional setting.

PRESIDENT V CAPTAIN Teams Match

Originally scheduled for 2 September, the President vs Captain Teams Match will  be held on Tuesday 9 September 2025.  

This will be the first women’s shotgun start (with lunch to follow) since the Clubhouse closed for renovations – a welcome return.

Entries open this Tuesday 19 August at 3.00pm via the event registration list.

Arrive from 8.00am in the new Learmonth Room for barista coffee available for purchase before the 8:30am tee-off. After golf, enjoy a drink on arrival and a main course in the Links Room ($35.)

Practice with purpose by Craig Bonney

Alignment sticks are an excellent training aid and should be incorporated consistently into your practice routine.

They help train the eyes and brain to align the shoulders, hips, knees, and feet parallel to the target line—an essential foundation for consistent ball striking.

Beyond alignment, these tools are also valuable for refining the takeaway. Specifically, they help establish the correct club and body position at waist height—a key checkpoint in the swing. This position plays a crucial role in setting the hand and arm plane on the proper path to the top of the backswing.

At this waist-high point, observe a slight shoulder turn, hips beginning to open, the club parallel to the ground, and the clubface matching your spine angle.

Regularly rehearsing this position during your practice swings will contribute to long-term improvements in your technique and overall swing consistency.
