The motion in EGM No 2 calls for a 'pause' to enable a reduction in the Clubhouse renovation works and the level of debt.

As your President, I feel duty bound to point out why this ill-defined pause will stop for good the Clubhouse renovation that was endorsed by the members in 2021.

Here are 8 key reasons for voting AGAINST the 'pause' motion in EGM No.2:


1. The pause length is not specified. It will stop the project indefinitely.

2. To lift the pause, the Club would need another member vote at a future EGM or AGM.

3. With a pause, the Club cannot sign the current fixed-price building contract on offer. The builder will walk away. Any future builders will be wary.

4. Our architect, consultants and project manager will all move on.

5. The extent of the building works' reduction is unspecified.

6. The extent of the debt reduction is not defined.

7. Significant redesign and consultant expenses and another round of tenders will be necessary to relaunch any future work at substantial cost to the Club.

8. The Stage 1 plans for the renovation are ready to go. Work can commence in February 2024. Don't let this opportunity be lost.

Please support your Committee and vote AGAINST the pause.
