Win This Putter

It’s our first birthday in the ‘new’ golf shop and we are marking the occasion by running an exciting competition where members have a chance to win a top-of-the-line putter, perhaps your new best friend on the greens.

From today, every $100 spent by members in the Club's golf shop on retail goods and merchandise gives you an entry to win a TaylorMade TP Reserve Putter valued at $599.

The competition will run until midday on Melbourne Cup Day and there is no limit to the  number of times you can enter between now and then.

We wish everyone who enters the best of luck!

staff news

Welcome Jordan!

Jordan Kane has joined the golf shop team and he will be available for lessons from Sundays to Wednesdays.

Jordan grew up in Portland, in Victoria's south-west, primarily playing football and basketball as a junior. He moved to Adelaide in 2015 to pursue a Bachelor of Medical Science and began playing golf socially.

While studying, Jordan worked as a casual employee at Kooyonga Golf Club. After completing his degree and advancing his golf skills, Jordan pursued a PGA Associateship (formerly a PGA Traineeship) under Head Professional John Corbett in 2021.

During his time at Kooyonga, Jordan took on the role of Junior Coordinator and contributed to coaching the club's pennant teams, which achieved premierships in 2021, 2022, and 2023. This underscores his passion for junior coaching and golf development. He has also embarked on the PGA game development pathway to further improve his coaching skills in these areas.

Jordan and his partner have relocated to the Geelong area to be closer to family in both Portland and Melbourne, and they are excited about living in a regional community once again.

Jordan specialises in junior coaching, so if you have a junior in your life who is looking to get in to golf or build upon their current skills, please get in touch with Jordan or any of the golf shop staff to book a lesson.

putter and wedge fitting days

Putter Fitting Days - Friday 20th October and Wednesday 8th November from 10.00am - 1.00pm

Have you been thinking about a new putter? With the reopening of the practice putting green imminent it might be a good time to.

Is your putter suited to your stroke?

Did you know that head shape and shaft type will affect the centre of gravity in the putter which in turn affects how much or little the putter head will arc?

Come along to our putting fitting day and let us make sure your putter suits.

Please email or call the golf shop to book.

Wedge Fitting Day - Wednesday 18th October and Thursday 26th October from 10.00am - 1.00pm

Having trouble stopping your wedges on the fast greens?

Maybe the grooves on your wedges have lost their edge.

Some interesting facts from some recent testing hitting a full shot:

Titleist tested wedges after 125 rounds, 75 rounds and a new wedge with fresh grooves.

  • 125 rounds - 35 degree launch | 6500 RPM spin | 24 feet of roll
  • 75 rounds - 34 degrees launch angle | 7400 RPM spin|18 feet of roll
  • Fresh grooves - 33 degrees launch angle | 8500 RPM spin | 10 feet of roll.

Just imagine if your wedges are older than the ones tested.

Please email or call the golf shop to book your place.

tip from the pro

By Jess Bramble

Let your left hand do all the work in your short game (for a right-handed golfer)!

If your right hand is doing too much of the work in your chip and pitch shots, your contact is likely to be very inconsistent and include both fat and skinny shots.

Your right had gets too involved in your short game if you try and lift the ball up into the air or you don't rotate your body towards the target on your downswing. (Pictures one and two.)

Ideally, we want you to finish with your left wrists nice and flat and your left arm nice and straight. (Picture three.)

Take some practice swings where just the left hand is on the club aiming to keep your left arm and the club in one straight line. Then pop your right hand on and just let it support the weight of the club, feeling your left hand more in control.
