women's summer refresher 

Summer is always one of the most active periods on the course and Jess’s Women's Summer Refresher is here to help you prepare. These small-group clinics offer an excellent way to sharpen your skills before the busiest weeks of January.

Each clinic is limited to six women and the program ($350 per person) includes six 60-minute coaching sessions plus lunch in the Clubhouse after the final clinic.

Clinic dates and times are as follows:

• Tuesday 30 December at 11am – Putting
• Thursday 1 January at 11am – Chipping
• Friday 2 January at 11am – Pitching / Bunkers
• Tuesday 6 January at 11am – Full Swing
• Thursday 8 January at 11am – Short Game
• Friday 9 January – Lunch in the Clubhouse at 12pm followed by Bunkers / Long Game at 1.30pm

PARRAMATTA GRASS UPDATE

The current dabbing program targeting Parramatta Grass is proving highly effective, though it is a labour-intensive process. Each clump is treated individually with non-selective herbicide, which inevitably leaves temporary patches of discoloured or dead turf in the rough and around the approaches. These markings, while unsightly for a short time, are a sign that the treatment is working. As the program continues and the weed declines, the surrounding turf will recover and the long-term health and playability of these areas will improve.

With Junior Golf Week on the horizon, January is especially busy for young golfers too and our junior clinics are an enjoyable and productive way to spend time at the Club. They also make tremendous Christmas gifts.

These sessions are exclusively for members’ children and grandchildren, as well as junior members aged eight to sixteen.

Each 60-minute clinic includes plenty of ball hitting, skill building and games. Groups are limited to six children per session. Cost: $30 per child per session.

Know Your Favourite Distance to Hit into the Green!

If you know that you can't get to the green with your approach shot, it might be best to use a club that leaves you with a particular distance for your next shot into the green. Rather than leaving yourself an awkward 30m - 60m shot which can often be between clubs or require you to have great control with your wedge, you could leave yourself a distance that requires a full swing. If your 9-iron is your favourite club for example, that you feel both comfortable and confident with try and leave yourself with that distance as often as you can to have a look at more makable putt on the green.

Remember whilst the green is always your end target, plot your way around the course trying to leave yourself with shots that you feel comfortable playing.

JANUARY TWILIGHTS

With summer upon us, we are pleased to offer five Twilight Golf evenings this January — an additional event to enjoy seven holes in the long light and a relaxed themed dinner in the Clubhouse afterwards. Twilights are the Club’s main social golf focus this season, as the Summer Cup will not be held this January. Members are encouraged to book when each timesheet opens, as places are limited.
