The Burston Trophy is a very popular mixed foursomes knockout event with the first round to be played on Sunday 12th January 2020. Last year approximately 220 players entered.
The trophy was first presented 61 years ago in 1958.
The 1950s, according to Heads, You Win were a watershed decade for the Club and of the 14 new events added that decade, the JS Burston Trophy is expressive of the Club's conviviality.
James Stanley Burston (President from 1952-57) joined in 1928, and his brother Harold followed in 1931. They worked in the family business of Barrett Burston Maltsters. James, according to Heads, You Win, led the Club out of its inward-looking pre-war stance. His wife, nee Jowette, had joined in 1926. Jointly they donated the Burston Trophy. Their daughters, who endowed the trophy in 1969, married well-known Barwon Heads Members - HF Tucker, GK Russell, JR Sherwin and GH Davey. The trophy is currently presented by descendant and Member, Mr Michael Tucker.
Last year's winners were Ben Collins and Lyn Fraser who defeated Peter and Jane Riordan 2&1.
