Dear Aces,

Junior Pennant - Round 3 & Photos

On Sunday we ventured to RACV Torquay and came away with a strong 4/1 win.

This week we started well in most matches, which is particularly important when playing away. We didn't surrender this advantage at any stage.

  1. Stirling Shier (above) - In a high-quality match Stirling was square with the card after the front nine to be 1up. With four birdies for the round he headed down the 18th 1up which was halved with birdies, the only hole they halved all day.

  1. Val Rodriguez (above) - Considering Val did not play golf for three months leading into the pennant season due to a broken leg, he is playing sensational golf. Today he birdied the first and was always in control of his match closing it our 5/3

  1. Donovan Shier (above) - After losing the 1st, Donny turned 2up and then played a strong back nine to win his match 4/2.

  1. Charlie Cox  (above) - Playing his first pennant match for BHGC Charlie had a tough assignment against the district's best girl. With his wedge play a feature of his game, Charlie was square after 8 holes. After losing 4 holes in a row in the middle of his round, he fought back really well but ultimately ran out of holes going down 4/3. Well done Charlie.

  1. Bailey Macdonald (above) - Bailey Macdonald - Bailey started well today winning his first five holes which included pars on 2,3 & 4. His opponent persevered really well and hardly played a bad shot from that point to be 1 down after 15. Bailey then responded with par on 16 and a fantastic tee shot to four feet on the par 3 17th to close out his match 2/1.

My thanks this week go to:

  • Our caddies Jason Thiele, Andrew Macdonald and Dawn Macdonald who once again were very important to our less experienced lower order
  • Photographer Robbie Rodriguez whose amazing pictures are above and below.

After three rounds we are the only undefeated team in the Westerveld Shield, two games clear of three clubs who have had one win each. Next Sunday we host a strong Geelong 1 at home (10.30am) in what will be a great challenge. A win will see us win the Westerveld Shield despite having a bye in the last round.
