Dear Aces,

Junior Pennant - Round 2 & Photos

East Geelong at East Geelong was always going to be a difficult assignment and it proved just that. Giving shots in every match and in two matches 17 shots.

East Geelong started well and won the first two matches to be completed. But as our team does, it persisted fantastically well winning the three remaining matches to secure a hard fought 3/2 win.

Above: Tom Thiele

  1. Tom Thiele - Giving eight shots to the SWGA Order of Merit nett winner was always going to be a tough match for Tom. As usual Tom struck the ball well but his putting let him down today. With his opponent playing well on his home course, Tom went down 4/3

  1. Stirling Shier (above) - Parred the first five holes to be up early and holed a pressure putt on 16 to be dormie. His opponent holed a 20-footer on the 17th green to take him down 18 but a rock solid par on 18 with the contest all tied with two wins apiece gave him a 2-up win.

  1. Val Rodriguez (above) -  In his debut match for Barwon Heads, Val drove the ball well all day with a brilliant 4 iron to six feet on the seventh helping him to be 1-up after nine. Another great approach to two feet on 16 meant he was 2-up with two to play. A terrific tee shot followed on the par three 17th setting up a 3/1 win. Well done Val and his caddie Jason.

  1. Bailey Macdonald  (above) - With his opponent playing very well Bailey again dug deep to be 1-down after nine holes. Bailey played a great back nine in which he won six of the seven holes he completed - finishing his match with an approach shot to two feet on 16 for a 4/2 win.

  1. Campbell Shier (above) - Campbell won the first but then lost the next six holes to be five down after seven holes. With an enormous challenge ahead, Campbell fought back really well to be one down after a birdie on the 200m par three 13th. Eventually losing 3/2.

My thanks this week go to:

  • Our Caddies Jason Thiele and Andrew Macdonald who once again were very important to our less experienced lower order
  • Club pennant stalwart John Brodie for coming out to East Geelong Golf Club and supporting the team
  • Photographer Robbie Rodriguez whose pictures are above.

After two rounds we are the only undefeated team in the Westerveld Shield. Next week we head to RACV Torquay to try and consolidate our position on top of the ladder.

Aces: Sunday 3rd November

The penultimate Aces for the year will be on at 1.00pm this weekend (the first Sunday in November) so come along to the Club for another great session.

To assist the organisers, it would be very helpful if you could click here to send an email to let them know you're planning to attend the next Sunday Aces session.

If it's your first time at an Aces session, please pay at the Pro Shop (the building opposite the clubhouse). Then make your way to the driving range near the coaching hut at the western end of the lower car park.

Please make sure you're dressed appropriately while on the course. Take a moment to look at the Club's dress code. In general terms we require everyone to wear neat attire including a collared shirt/polo (tucked in for boys), tailored trousers/shorts/skirts, white socks (for boys wearing shorts) and closed shoes. You can read all about the dress code on the website.
