The Committee is pleased to announce that Demaine Partnership Architects has been appointed to produce the Clubhouse and Environs Master Plan ('CEMP') for the Club.

50+ LUNCH

Seven members, most who joined the same year Apollo 11 made the first manned moon landing, will be inducted into the prestigious 'club-within-a-club' at this year's 50+ lunch to be held on Sunday 14th July.

Thank you to those who have already RSVP'ed. If you've received an invitation and are yet to reply, please indicate to the Club your attendance or otherwise by the 5th of July.

President's cocktail party

Over 140 people attended a very enjoyable President's Cocktail Party with a wonderful atmosphere. President, Julie Hope-Johnstone welcomed guests and gave an outline of the state of your Club.

For those who couldn't attend, click below to see a gallery of photos from the evening.

Member Sundays

Marg Austin and Pat Lockie hosted three members for the June session during which Ian Newland had an "unofficial" hole-in-one on the 4th from the top tee. Pat said,

"Ian hit a lovely 7-iron up the hill and the ball rolled back into the hole."
While attendance does not guarantee a hole-in-one, the next Member Sunday will be held on the 7th July. Click below to read more about the format for the afternoon and to see how you can benefit by attending. All members are welcome, not just those who've recently joined. Register your interest by calling the Pro Shop (5255 6255).

Assisting Charities

The Club prides itself on its engagement with several charities and through the generosity of members and guests has helped raise much-needed funds.

In late November 2018 GenU held a charity golf day at the Club with proceeds raised going towards the purchase of a ParaGolfer, an all-terrain wheelchair that can be used by people with a high-level spinal cord injury to play golf. Click the video below to see how your charity day involvement has a direct impact.

Captain Frank's Rules quiz

This month we have another clarification to a rule concerning match play, which is topical with the Hicks 4BBB Trophy and the Leslie Sprague Memorial Cup in progress.

Anne and Sue have teamed up to play in the Hicks 4BBB Trophy. During the match play round, Anne has been advised from her opposition that she played her ball from outside the relief area after dropping from shoulder height rather than knee height, therefore incurring a penalty. Do Anne and Sue lose the hole?

Answer below.

Rules quiz - answer

Answer: No. Rule 23.8a (1) applies and in the example above Sue can continue playing the hole as an individual (and can in fact win the hole).

Rule 23.8 When Penalty Applies to One Partner Only or Applies to Both Partners

When a player gets a penalty for breach of a Rule, the penalty may apply either to that player alone or to both partners (that is, the side). This depends on the penalty and the form of play.

Rule 23.8a (1) Penalty Normally Applies Only to Player, Not Partner.

When a player gets a penalty other than disqualification, that penalty normally only applies to the player and not also to his or her partner. Note: There are three situations where a player's penalty also applies to their partner; including when player's breach helps their partner's play or harms their opponent's play. See Rule 23.8a (2) for more details.

Did you know...In 4BBB match play a side may be represented by one partner for all or any part of the match. All partners need not be present. An absent partner may join a match between holes, but not during play of a hole.

Frank Webb, Captain.
