women's pennant

Round seven, played on Friday 17th May, had much better weather conditions than the previous round which was postponed due to terrible weather.  Round 6 will be played this Friday.

Round SEVEN

Division 1

By Ann Manuell

Division 1 were at Anglesea playing Portarlington and it was a must win for our team.

It was a beautiful morning, the course was in reasonable condition following the storm however the normally speedy greens had been sanded!! Not to mention the slopes and kangaroos to contend with.

Anna Rothe led us off and had a great 3/2 win, Zara once again played very steadily but fell just short 2 down, Julie Hope-Johnstone had another solid 3/2 win, after a slow start Annie Seccull charged home winning 4/3 and I had a bad day losing 4/3.

It was a terrific 3/2 win against tough opposition.

We have our last match this Friday, in lieu of the bad weather Friday a fortnight ago, another we must win. All our team and caddies are available which is terrific.

DIVISION 2

By Jackie McDonald

This week we were off early at Barwon Valley playing Lonsdale.  We gave each other the pep talk and were up and about..... so we thought!!!

Lonnie came out firing and won 5/0. On the bright side the soup was delicious.

Playing Clifton Springs next week at Torquay for our last match should be interesting.

DIVISION 3

Unfortunately Division 3 are relegated.

We did not win a team match .

We were beaten 3/2 on Friday by Queens Park. Sandy de Crespigny won on the 17th.
Deb Lockie  won on the 16th.
Chris lost on the 18th.
Jenny lost 5/4.
Wendy lost 7/6.

We fought all season but could not come up trumps.

L-R: Sandy de Crespigny, Deb Lockie, Wendy Amor, Jenny McMillan, Chris Swinton

Division 4

By Bronnie Robson

Division 4 headed to Bannockburn for our final outing for the season, with a positive attitude after practice the day before.

The weather conditions were perfect.  Regrettably Anglesea managed the dreaded scrapes better, resulting in a 3/2 loss.

Robbie Forbes won 2/1, Sue also won 1up.  Jo Burton lost 2/1, Lib Nicholson 2 down and Bronnie Robson lost 4/2.

Division 6

By Sandie Rankin

Friday was a "chocolate box" type of day - sun shining and absolutely no wind.

We all went out with high hopes of beating Portarlington even though it was their home turf. Sadly it was not to be and we were defeated 3/2 with Marisa Colman and Sandie Rankin having the only wins.

This meant our focus shifted to the match between Clifton Springs 1 and Queens Park.  If Clifton Springs 1 lost we still had a chance. However they were  the winners so this put us out of contention for the flag.

A disappointing finish to the season. I think we would have preferred not to have missed the week against the top side because of rain , it would have been a more satisfying finish to have played all teams for we had a short season as it was.

I would like to thank my supportive and committed team who made my job very easy and gave me no grief by having to find emergencies. We all did our utmost to win each week and that's what counts.

Thank you to all who contributed to this report.
